Who We Are
Kechene Diaspora Network (KDN) organized to addresses the health, social, educational, development, and logistical needs of the underprivileged community in Kechene and across the world.
Kechene is a small village located on the slopes and ravines of North of Addis Ababa’s tallest mountain Entoto. The community is composed of skilled craftsmen, involved in the production of church material and agricultural equipment, pottery and traditional clothing. Diaspora members of this commnuty has established the organization called Diaspora Network (KDN) to support members of a the Kechene community by addressing the health, social, educational, development, and logistical needs.
KDN will develop coalitions with and among partners in business, churches, colleges, universities, and other community organizations to leverage, train, and link mentors to support children’s, adults and youth career exploration, and post–high school tutoring and mentoring.
About Us
We are members of the Kechene community diaspora residing across the
world. Our goal is to empower our handcraft (Amharic: ባለጅ) members of our community in social, cultural, economic spheres.
Kechene Diaspora Network (KDN), located at Olney, MD, has first started
as an annual get together program where community members and friends gathered
to have a good time. The gathering gradually grows to discuss issues that exist
in our community here and back in Ethiopia.
The intensive social and cultural discrimination among the community
members and clear and systemic attack of elders in different Synagogues
(Gadam’s) across northern Shoa and Oromia region has concerned members of the
community and initiated the establishment of this organization to raise
awareness, to protect the victims and to assist the displaced. We believe the
material and financial assistance we will provide to this community require our
combined effort to raise and establish a trust fund through this non-profit organization
by volunteer members of our community here in the US and across the world.
